Tips to Help You Prepare Your Car for Winter

Winter weather conditions are just on the horizon for us drivers in northern Indiana. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to get your car prepared for snow, rain, ice, and sub-freezing temperatures.

  1. Tires: Not all tires are the same -- some are better optimized for cold conditions and slick roads than others. To get the best cold weather performance from your vehicle, you'll need to get a set of winter tires. They’re designed with special tread patterns and rubber compounds to handle ice, snow, and sub-freezing temperatures.
  2. Wiper Blades: Wind shield wipers can take a beating throughout the year. If you haven't put on a new set since last winter, it's a good idea to do so now. You'll want fresh blades to handle rain, sleet, and snow.
  3. Battery: Cold temperatures can diminish battery performance and even cause loss of power. It's a good idea to check your battery before the winter months. You don't want to end up stranded in sub-freezing temperatures.
  4. Emergency Pack: If you do end up stuck on the side of the road during winter, you'll want to have some supplies and equipment ready for the occasion. Pack an emergency bag with a blanket, flashlight, non-perishable food, and other useful items.

If you need help with any of these preparation tasks, contact our service center. We'll be happy to help get your car ready for winter.
