The age-old question: are used cars reliable?

When shopping for a used vehicle this thought has probably popped up: "are used cars reliable?"

On today's blog we want to address those concerns and show you how you can make an educated choice when shopping our used inventory.

First off, times have changed! Cars have come a long way over the years. They're more reliable than in the past and easier to fix. Another thing is that a lot of used inventories, including ours, have a high volume of vehicles that have just come off leases. This is good for a few reasons.

  1. Lessee's generally take very good care of their vehicles because they go back to a dealership, and it's required in the lease terms that they stay up to date on the service schedule. Mileage is often light on these models, too
  2. Because they've come off a lease that is 3-years, they're from recent model years. That means you'll get up to date styling and technology

Even if you do choose an older model year, all our vehicles come with a CARFAX history report. That means you can review the service history, see how many owners the car had, and better assess if there are areas where you don't feel comfortable moving forward with a purchase or if you're ready to start the financing process.

If reliability is still a major concern, we suggest shopping our small selection of Certified Pre-Owned models. These vehicles have gone through a rigorous 125+ point inspection to earn the 'Certified' title and they have extended warranties in case major issues occur.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the used vehicles on our lot are from non-luxury brands. While any used vehicle brand can have an issue (though we work hard to root out the suspected ones), used luxury models can be more finicky and can be costlier to upkeep. It's something to consider as you shop used, but if you really do want the luxury badge and have extra money for potential surprises, it can still be a fun investment.
